Back Office - a service runs on the back office server (Site Manager) which monitors certain folders. Each Mobile has a unique group of folders (Out, Out Images, In and In Images) if anything is placed in an Out folder the service sends it to the Web Server. The server requires an internet connection.
Site Manager monitors the In folders and imports any returned XMLs either into Site Manager files, or a temporary holding file, awaiting human authorisation. The Service creates and maintains the folders depending on the settings from within Site Manager.
Web server - Our secure HTTPS Web Server acts as a post box to control the distribution of files to the correct Mobile and vice a versa. We manage the Web Server.
Mobiles - Mobiles are Linked by their MAC number to an individual who is registered with Site Manager. Communications are through a SIM card, WiFi. If locations are required a GPS is necessary.
Running Costs
To use the remote facility instead of Wi-Fi there could be a charge for data transfer. Typically your mobile telephone provider will charge you a monthly amount for telephone use and an additional charge for internet access. Some contracts include internet access in the monthly charge e.g. 5mb per month. Consult your provider for the best deals.
Through testing we have monitored usage and the following table shows the number of bytes of data transferred and the number of actions per MB for each task. Basically only images (photos and Signatures) use high band width. CleanLink Mobiles can withhold images until docked.
We have tested the iPad2’s use of band width with the following results:
The band width used for a Site will depend on the number of Audit points, the size of the Specification/Hazards and number of Staff on each Site.
Pictures and Signatures can be sent in 4 sizes - small picture 30KB a large picture 250KB. There is a setting to send pictures only by WiFi, so the Audit scores can be sent immediately and the photos will catch up when WiFi is available. The Audit can be looked at on Site Manager but cannot be imported until the Pictures have arrived.
1MB of bandwidth could send about 250 Audits with signatures or 80 Audits with Signature and one picture each (default size).

The app will work on iPhone, iPad and the iPod Touch (iOS v 4.2 or higher), and soon on some Android Devices.

Only the 3G versions have a GPS.
